Marcelo Ordaz-Cruz's RxExercise Ambassadorship

Today, Aug 1, 2008, is the 1st Anniversary of Marcelo Ordaz-Cruz, already a survivor of accidental paraplegia, barely surviving the I35W bridge collapse here in Minneapolis, MN.

Marcelo’s fellow challenged athletes and friends in Charities Challenge took that occasion of Marcelo “surviving” another catastrophe last year to commence a fundraising campaign to raise funds to provide him with new high-tech wheel chair racing wheels.

Thanks to CC Members and Friends for donations that allowed CC to supply Marcelo his new high-tech racing wheel chair wheels!

Since surviving the bridge collapse, Marcelo continued to train for excellence as a racing wheel chair athlete, inspiring many of us local athletes to make the most of our own athletic training.

Congratulations to Marcelo who raced to a huge personal record (PR) at Grandma’s Marathon last June! Marcelo amazed his fellow wheelers and friends by his sub-2 hour marathon, an 11 minute PR.

Marcelo told CC Coach Gary Westlund, “The new wheels made the difference. Now I want to train harder than ever and seek to break 1 hour 45 minutes in the next year”.

Charities Challenge Founder & President Gary Westlund says "CC is so pleased and proud to continue actively supporting and cheering Marcelo to new wheeling personal records. His inspired training and racing is inspiring so many of us, his fellow challenged athletes, to keep up our own RxExercise training to ever-improving health/fitness/strength, regardless of our health challenges like arthritis, cancer, diabetes and more.

Now that we’ve supplied Marcelo with his new wheels, my hopeful expectation is that we will next go on together to help underwrite Marcelo’s continuing, stronger-faster, training and racing by underwriting an accessible health/fitness club membership while also qualifying him for a CC RxExercise Ambassadorship Team Member-expenses-paid adventure to the San Antonio Marathon on November 16, 2008.

I’m also hopeful of recruiting others, runners, walkers, able bodied and challenged athletes, to join our RxExercise Ambassador Team to the San Antonio Marathon and Half Marathon, in order to provide a CC Team experience for everyone involved, including for our wheel chair racer leader, Marcelo.

So, please contact me/CC via www.CharitiesChallenge.org that you’re interested in learning about how you can join Marcelo to the San Antonio Marathon and Half Marathon as a fellow RxExercise Ambassador.

Thanks, Marcelo, for your exemplary athletic inspiration to us all”.
